Hide & Seek

Where do you find harmony?

I find it while watching bees buzz from flower to flower.

I find it when I am near the sound, smell or motion of water.

I find it in the quiet of an early morning

I find it behind the lens

I find it on those days when the snow falls like goose-down.

I find it while laughing with friends.

I find it in the simple rhythm of my breath…

Storm_blog.jpg

I find it among the weeds, in the pouring rain and in the same exact place that I find chaos. Why’s that?  Because harmony doesn’t have to live by any rules. Sure, we all have formulas in mind for it, but harmony doesn’t need to listen, it doesn’t need to oblige. It will show up looking different for every single person in a crowded room and then reinvent itself again, and again. That’s the spirit of it.

Harmony is the steady companion to everything crazy, chaotic and haphazard you could ever think of. It’s the calm before the storm, the eye of the storm and the calm right after. The peaceable nature of harmony is always there to lend contrast, introduce a paradox or shine some sort of unifying light.

Harmony seems quite happy to have its finger in every pie. It shows up on the worst of days, the most mundane and of course, shows up for the very best. It’s happy for us to notice it, feel it and enjoy it. Even so, harmony can seem elusive at times. Mostly because we can get so completely focused on the latest social, political or personal madness.

But not you, right?  You know that shifting your focus is attitude altering and likely to help you find the harmony you seek.  In fact, I bet you can’t wait until the next time things start getting a little out of hand.  Just so that you can smile to yourself and think:

Ready or Not, here I come!

EU GDPR

I’m sure you’ve heard of the not so little privacy law changes that have just come out of the EU. It’s called the EU GDPR (The European General Data Protection Regulation). We had something smaller scale roll out of Canada a few years back. I complied then and am complying now.

Here’s what the GDPR needs me to announce to you for security reasons:

-       The personal information that Moe Creative collects, is your e-mail predominantly and your first name if we work together. Most of my sales are digital, so really, this is the extent of the information about you I will ever need to know (Or so it is at this point). For encaustic commissions, an address for delivery will be required unless you plan on picking the piece(s) up yourself. If you want me to delete this/any info after we have worked together or at any other point, it’s absolutely your right. But I trust you will choose to stay in touch.

EU GDPR Image.jpg

-       I don’t share your information. Your e-mail is stored in a secure MailChimp database (they are my newsletter provider) and you have either signed up through them directly or have given me express consent in one of our face to face conversations to be added to this list. It is MailChimp’s policy not to share your information either.

-       Any third party used by Moe Creative is vetted prior to use. But please feel welcome to vet them yourselves for your own piece of mind.

-       It will always be clear in any of our interactions if you are dealing with a third party and not Moe Creative directly. If you find anything concerning, please e-mail me at Monique@moecreative.com.

Your concern is my concern.

Cheers to you!  - Moe

What If?

How often do you ask yourself questions that start with "What if...?"

What if: I did, said, believed or trusted this instead of that?

This line of questioning is the beginning of digging deeper into life. By taking the time to ask: WHAT IF?  You are actively choosing to explore your life in ways that may lead to unusual, unorthodox, fascinating and most importantly, dreamt of places.

So what exactly is the power behind asking What if?

I believe WHAT IF enables us to explore beyond the should(s) and long held limitations that we sometimes unwittingly impose on ourselves, our lives, our loved ones and our belief systems. It gently invites us to explore living beyond our current status in a safe and nurturing environment.  Imploring us to find more fertile ground, where we can plant and grow our dreams into a more favourable reality.

Does this sound like the advice of a dreamer, not a realist?
GREAT! Because reality is the past and the ground you are standing on right at this very moment. Being open to dreams and what if's allows for the exploration of your future potential. It allows for more truly informed decisions regarding what next step(s) could be in store for you. Within the question of What if, lies the opportunity to ensure you become familiar with, and walk the road you wish to travel.

Happy Wondering!

April Unscripted

I think we all went through the perfect winter, to experience more than a smidge of spontaneity. Stuck cars, waking to MORE & MORE snow, hidden ice… the list goes on. How do you think you did when it came to responding to the winter we just faced? Were you happy with your reactions? Or did you chalk it all up to

Not being a winter person?

Gross weather may make us question our spontaneity, but simply walking down a winter street, trying anything for the first time or running into an old acquaintance proves otherwise. We are constantly faced with the many ups and some downs of the unscripted portions of life. The reason we might not think we’re spontaneous, is because our reactions can be rogue, or contrary to what we’d like to have seen happen.

AprilUnscripted.jpg

What do you think about spontaneity in your life?

When I think of spontaneity, the good or the bad in it. I always think of that saying from the late Wayne Dyer about Karma. You know, the one that says:

How people treat you is their Karma.
How you react is yours.”

So true. Even though it might be a thing and not a person that we're reacting to.  Like everything, it takes practice and self-awareness to get what seems to be a spontaneous reaction we’re consistently happy with. We’re not born knowing how to manage our emotions, surprises and confrontations. It takes time, learning, patience and sometimes (ugh) experience. A person who grew up around spontaneous role models is going to have a far easier time rolling with life’s quirks than someone who grew up without any experiences to model after.

I think the beauty here, is that once we figure out where we fit on the spectrum of spontaneity, we can all choose to learn ways we can act with certainty instead of simply shooting from the hip and then feeling a sense of regret.  If instead, we slowly welcome and mould our seemingly spontaneous responses into something that feeds and fills us, we can with more regularity, react to unscripted events with a sense of integrity and revelry. The choice, as they say, is ours to make.

Let's Enjoy a Cuppa Coffee Together

The latest issue of Coffee with Moe has just reached the virtual bookshelf. A virtual offering (Yep, it’s free) full of photos, artwork, and coffee-break sized articles to get you thinking about something other than work and/or what's stressing you. (This cuppa might even help with what ails you!)

This quarter, I'm changing up the style of my Coffee with Moe interview and introducing a very cool Canadian Woman who’s been a significant contributor to my creative atmosphere for over a decade.

She's out of this world! Check her out HERE

& Remember...

When you're done sipping your way through this particular brew, we've got two years of Coffee Blends/ Back Issues available in the Digital Magazine tab, just waiting for you to dip back into.

Digging into What Matters

What’s your idea of a great life?

Are you living it now?

Could things be better?

How?

What can you do about it… today?

When faced with these kinds of “digging deep” questions, I often find myself consulting with my inner child. You may laugh or think it strange, but let me tell you why this can be such an important perspective.  I am not looking for a child-ish answer. I am looking to tap back into my child-like, unjaded enthusiasm for life. An enthusiasm that is free from a lifetime of collected barriers that tap dance loudly on my shoulder, like little disgruntled garden gnomes.

Your gnomes are likely different than mine, but we all have a few, who keep faithfully dancing around why we shouldn’t, couldn’t, mustn’t, can’t...  I’m sure you get the picture.  If you observe these little beasties, they seem like they’re only trying to help. They may come equipped with a familiar voice that sounds like concern and wellbeing. Yet, too often their limitations are built on false, unfounded or simply outdated ideals.

An Image of Me at Age 1 . (Picture courtesy of my Uncle T.)

An Image of Me at Age 1 . (Picture courtesy of my Uncle T.)

How do you access your inner cutie? (Instead of those pesky, misguided gnomes?)

It’s easiest to start by looking at a happy picture of yourself at a very young age. A picture you like, where you are looking into the camera is best. Put this pic on your phone for easy access. Now, boldly look into your sweet innocent eyes and slowly ask yourself the questions you need to get answered. Observe your real-time self.  What is coming up for you? How, if asked, would you guide this little version of you to the right decision?

Is this process adding clarity? Observe closely. It’s common for the gnomes to try and sneak in a doubt or two.

At heart, this process is very much like riding a bicycle.

In the beginning, there may be a few scraped knees and certainly some wobbly starts. But with practice, you’ll be hopping aboard and taking your inner child for a spin anytime you need practical and personal guidance.

Start today, by uploading that picture and be sure to have some fun getting reacquainted with your child-like self. Then, when life needs a tweak or some full blown change, you’ll be equipped to tap into, not tap dance around your ideal life.

Coffee Reflections

I’ve often heard January referred to as the Monday of the Months.  How do you feel about January?

Are you...

Excited?

Relieved?

Resentful?

Apathetic?

Confident?

All of the Above?

To me, January feels like the still-point after the silly season chaos.  A time to regroup, recharge & restart

In the spirit of what I feel about January, I have created the latest edition of Coffee with Moe. A quotes edition that I trust will provide a supportive hug (in words) to help you find the value in life’s mix of moments, while softly contributing to your uncharted path in 2018.

November Reflections

Day1.jpg

November is a strange month. (In the Northern Hemisphere at least)

The excitement of Halloween is over, gardens have faded, the silly season isn’t quite here yet & the snow shovel has made a very unwelcome return.

But as much as this month seems like the dramatic pause before all chaos breaks loose, I find it to be a perfect time to pour myself a hot cuppa (or few) and reflect. Of course on the 11th, this reflection is focused on those who died in the line of duty. But for the rest of this still point, we can choose to reflect on where we are and re-frame where we plan to go this silly season and beyond, into the new year.

Now the idea of reflecting on a plan might seem daunting, but this doesn’t have to be. The daunting part might actually come from cluttering our minds with the whole project, start to finish. Perhaps reflection instead, could be used as an easy and portable method for gaining clarity.

Reflection can be the act of dusting off and making room on our mental bookshelves. Each item on each shelf is full of hopes, dreams, ideas and/or past experience. Some of these things are not our own, they were gifts. Offerings from well meaning friends, families or strangers, filled with the shoulds, coulds and woulds they wished for our futures. Absolutely, some of those stories and ideas may align, but others may not. Reflection is a way of sorting through each item, ensuring our shelves are filled with our own stuff. The stories and knowledge that will serve us to navigate our own paths, to our own dream and desire fulfillment.

And don't worry, there is no right way, or wrong way to reflect.

Myself? I tend to clean through my bookshelves differently every time. That way I feel sure that I've shaken loose any dusty ideas that aren’t my own. (They have a funny way of sneaking back onto my shelf, when I am not paying attention).

What dusty ideas could you benefit from shaking loose?

If you can imagine a couple, then grab yourself a warm, soothing cuppa and settle into your own November reflection.

Wishing you a warm and very clear November.

Moe

ps. Make sure to include tactile tools in your reflection. Coloured pens, journals, stickers, warm food, soothing tea and whatever else it takes for you to enjoy this process. Making it fun is a surefire way of making it happen.

Orange you glad?

Hello September Banner.jpg

Orange you glad it's autumn?

(I am!)

Every fall I find myself reminiscing about spring & summer, thinking:

WOW! Can Mother Nature throw a party or what?

No, really!

The kaleidoscope of colours that mother nature puts on display, reminds me of the fireworks that happen after a long, hot and energetic festival. The celebrations we throw, show a definite thread of similarity to the opening acts of spring, the full out celebration of summer and the end of party fireworks that dazzle us with an autumnal wash of colour. Follow that up with a long winters nap to help us and the world recuperate and we are ready to start into a fresh day, a new spring.

If you think about it, we are living in the perpetual flow of this natural spectacular called life all year long. It happens whether we want it or not, whether we are ready or not, whether we are noticing or not, whether we are happy or not. Wherever we are in life, we always have the option to jump in and experience some aspect of this continuous celebration, or not. The option is always ours. And yes, of course, there are always unwelcome party crashers along the way. These crashers, better known as tragedy, pain, bumps and curve balls, are sometimes the contrast we get (but definitely don’t want) to allow us complete appreciation of the good stuff. (Think winter vs summer, storm vs calm...) We’ve all experienced our share.

So, this fall, regardless of what life has thrown at you, may I suggest that you take the time to grab your blankets and your loved ones. Step into the great outdoors and enjoy mother nature’s autumn spectacular.  Make loving memories while life is vibrant, enjoying the show that mother nature created just for you!

What’s up at Moe Creative?

So much! There's painting, photography, surface design (Pattern designing- see a sampling with the quote above), plus so much learning and growing. It's madness I tell you!! MADNESS!

I could write you a novella, truly, but instead may I suggest that you tune in to: @moe_creative on Instagram for a glimpse or two of coming attractions, or watch your inbox for next month’s Coffee with Moe. You can also visit these links to see the latest on:

The 5 S's of Summer

Hey there,

Welcome to June.

As I sit outside writing today, I am mostly absorbed in the goodness of summer.

That's right, I said summer!!!

Because, while the astrological start to summer is not happening until June 20th, the meteorological start to summer began June 1st. Oh yah! Welcome to an early summer!

Summer usually means a time of open windows and outdoor living. So, I thought I would include a cute little video from Australia's Sid the Seagull, who will sing you a song about how to have fun outside and not get fried. Enabling you to focus on the oodles of BBQ, patio time & general outdoor goodness coming your way.

Now that the seed of a little summer jingle has been planted in your head and thoughts of summer begin to bloom...How do you think you want to spend these bonus weeks of summer?

Around here, I am fresh off the plane from France and digging into some Moe Creative projects. June signals a time to turn up my torch again. Literally on my Encaustic painting and figuratively on my photography and digital magazine production.

Absolutely, there's always time for friends, family and gardening in the June mix, especially with so many long warm days ahead. But after a rejuvenating and inspiring spring abroad, the majority of my June will be spent creatively brewing up the next batch of Moe Creative offerings. (Including the July issue of Coffee with Moe. Due to arrive in your in-box July 5th)

As your head fills with thoughts of summer & maybe our next coffee together, I will bring this post to a close. But know, that I am around all summer and only an e-mail away. So don't wait for coffee, write me any time. And know that you are always on my mind with every word I write or photo I take. And I am thinking of you enjoying an amazing start to this summer of possibilities.

Until we connect again...

Be sure to fire up the barbie, be sun smart & live your brightest summer ever.

With Heart,

Moe

PS. Don't forget, you can find me on Instagram every day.

Here is a video of Artist Martin Baas & his real time clock at the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. This performance piece was featured on my Instagram feed at the end of March.  To check out everything that my eyes have spied, visit:  www.instagram.com/moe_creative

In 2016, Baas created the Schiphol clock in which a working man can be seen painting the time minute by minute. The clock is installed in the international Terminal 2 of the Amsterdam airport, one of the last things travellers see before departing the Netherlands. The worker’s blue overalls, yellow rag and red bucket pay homage to the famous Dutch artist, Mondrian.

Sugar & Spice & Everything Nice...

(That is what May is made of)

This Merry month of May WILL bring the long awaited arrival of spring and that is the sweet and spicy change we've all been waiting for.  (Don't worry Calgary, I'm touching wood in case mother nature has some more wicked weather planned)

Speaking of plans, springtime can be fertile ground for more than just planning a garden. It's the ideal time for new ideas and projects to grow.

Does spring feel like this for you?

It does for me, and while I'm busy tootling around France, my brain is filling with the seeds of new possibilities. This means while away, I'm still working on your next summer read, Coffee with Moe, plus carving out the foundation for a few more projects that aim to keep this Java Juiced engine called Moe Creative humming.

I'm sure you may have guessed by all the caffeinated references, that creativity around here is fueled, in part, by a little Coffee. But coffee alone isn't nearly as fun as when it's brewed with good conversation. So let's talk.

Yah, you and me!

I want to hear what you'd like MO(R)E of.  (Creatively, Visually & Constructively)

So please, send me an e-mail & Let's talk today!  - Moe

As we swiftly move into spring, that means it's time for another issue of:    Coffee with Moe.

In this issue we explore the ideas of beauty and joy, plus I will introduce to you an amazing sculptress of all four elements. Peig Abbott, my coffee talk guest, has been following her inner calling for decades and it shows in her thoughts, her words and her art.

Be sure to take time to sip, flip and revisit this (and every) issue of Coffee with Moe at your leisure. As you read this, I am settling into my new digs in the South of France. I'm staying in the Languedoc Roussillon Region, which looks remarkably like Alberta at first glance. This is thanks to the majestic Pyrenees Mountain Range looming in the distance.

While it offers a peripheral sense of visual familiarity, the mountains are approximately where similarity ends. So please join me during my travels while I explore the many things that draw me to this gorgeous land year after year.

In case you've not yet heard...

I am doing a (mostly) visual daily travel blog via Instagram, so you can easily tune in and say hello with the click of a heart or a few words. I'd love to see you there. www.instagram.com/moe_creative

While I am away from Canada, in April and most of May, I am still here in the virtual world. So please, do not hesitate to send me a line to ask questions or even just say hello.

Just remember, I am in the Central European Time zone. So there may be a little jet lag between your writing and my response. Happy Spring!

I look forward to connecting soon!

Spring Renewal

With the snow gently falling outside, it doesn't feel like spring is around the corner, but thankfully it is!

Spring triggers a grande sense of renewal, as if it were the birthplace of ideas and the welcome return of vibrancy, vitality and variety. While this return might mean something completely different for each of us, the feeling is much the same. Exciting, energizing and oh, so very welcome!

Over here at Moe Creative, spring is looking a lot like another great adventure. A time to explore, discover and photo document every moment possible. Again, I am gratefully preparing for my spring venture into the gloriously serene South of France. (I leave March 30th)

While my days are still peppered with work and day to day living. Last year I still managed to enjoy over 5,000km of exploration, beauty and history. More eye candy than a girl can point a camera at.

But I'll do my best. And that best, will get documented and shared as my mostly visual travel diary. So...

JOIN ME IN FRANCE!

From the comfort of your couch or office chair. When you have a minute, access my Instagram Travel log here. If you are signed up for Instagram, you can be notified of my latest posting by following these directions:

Go into your phone, ipad or computer: settings/ notifications/ Instagram/ Turn on 'Allow Notifications'.

It's really that easy!

& Don't worry if you don't have or want Instagram! All you really need to do, is bookmark this link: www.instagram.com/moe_creative

And with that, you can visit me daily for a bite sized look into life in France.

While the travel log of France is always a visual treat, it's not the only Moe Creative offering in the making. Before I leave, I am finishing & polishing up the latest issue of Coffee with Moe. It's scheduled to be released on April 5th. (Note: If you are signed up to receive this blog to your inbox, then you will also receive a link to the newest magazine on the 5th.)

Well, I could write all day about the painting, photographing and writing of things, but for now, I am going to sign off. To continue preparing for the grande spring renewal that's awaiting us all.

Wishing you an amazing and vibrant spring.

With Heart,

Moe

Since we connected last month for the January Issue of Coffee with Moe (CwM), I have been making sure that I am acting on your feedback, photographing, arting, writing, creating the next virtual CwM, finished up a commission called The Greatness in Small Things, (Click here or go to the Fine Art tab on my site to see this piece) and am starting to work on a new Abstract commission (To be revealed in time). Not to mention, preparing for my annual work abroad adventure in France.

Ooh la la, Life is Good!

For those of you following my About Page: Instagram Gallery Or Instagram itself (@moe_creates), things have shifted a wee bit. The Daily Word Prompt Challenges I was following stopped abruptly at the end of 2016. So, this 2017, you will be getting images from what I spy with my little eye. I've also started including a little write up each day to give each image context and let you in on what I was thinking or experiencing at the time.

ps. Instagram will be my Daily Travel Blog while I am working in France this April & May. So catch a slice of daily French living on Instagram
